How to Build the Ultimate Home in 2018

You’ve been planning on building your dream home for years, but it never seemed to be quite the right time to get started. Perhaps you wanted to save for a bigger deposit, start a family first or go on that long-awaited overseas holiday or maybe you aren’t entirely certain what it is that you’re after. Well, you’re in luck! Today we’re going to talk about what’s the best way to go about getting started on building your ultimate home.

Let’s Start at the Very Beginning

Building your ultimate home may be a little overwhelming, so it’s imperative you start to plan and do your research first. Treat yourself to some glossy home design magazines and bookmark the pages that really inspire you. Create a vision board, mood board or Pinterest board for yourself using home design pictures that inspire you. This is going to be your dream home, so a large proportion of the build (if not all of it) is bound to be customised. At Inspired Homes, we specialise in building fully-customised homes and can create whatever your heart desires (take a peek at some of our custom-built homes in our portfolio here). With us, the sky really is the limit.

Break it Down

No, we don’t mean like MC Hammer. Break down your home into manageable, bite-sized chunks so that you can be clear in your mind about how you want each room to look like: colour schemes, furniture, mod cons, and technology. Remember, this is your ultimate home, so let your imagination run wild!

Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of any home, so you’ll want to make sure you get this room just right. If you enjoy cooking, no doubt you’ll be spending plenty of time in it so you’ll want to be surrounded by things that you love. Don’t forget you want it to be functional as well as beautiful, so factor in enough space for a walk-in pantry, large stainless steel hotplate and oven, as well as a decent-sized fridge-freezer.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms are so much more than a place to brush our teeth and get clean. Bathrooms are where we can relax and unwind at the end of a busy day (or week). Yes, we’re talking a bath or, if we want to think big, a spa. Think about designing your bathroom around a luxurious relaxation hub. Choose colours and designs that soothe you, including paint and tiles, as well as elegant tapware, sinks and surfaces. Think big – nobody wants a small, pokey bathroom.

Bedrooms

Once you’ve spent some time relaxing in your new bathroom, you’ll probably want to retire to your bedroom. How do you imagine it? Luxurious wallpaper or paint? King-sized bed or four-poster? Plush-pile carpet you can sink your toes into or polished floorboards with scatter rugs?
